Games That Don't Cook Your Phone

May 21, 2026 · Marta Kowalczyk

Every so often I finish a session and my phone is uncomfortably warm and down twenty percent. Other games I can play for an hour and barely notice. After testing a lot of titles, the pattern is pretty clear once you know what to look for.

The biggest culprit is a high locked framerate combined with heavy effects. Racing and action games love their bloom and particle spam, and that pushes the GPU hard. If a game offers a framerate cap or a lower graphics preset, using it is the single easiest win for battery life.

Turn-based and card games are almost always gentle because the screen sits mostly still between your inputs. If battery is your priority, that whole category is your friend — strategy, deck-builders, calmer sims.

My practical advice: check the settings before your first long session. Cap the framerate, drop brightness a notch, and turn off vibration if you don't care about it. Those three tweaks stretched my playtime noticeably on the hungrier games I tested.
